Although the print title shows Manchester, this subject is actually London’s Adelphi Building (near the Strand). This carriage print image was specially painted for use in the Kate Winslet film Enigma, where the plot turns on the leading character seeing this print in a railway carriage! It was presented to the author after the release of the film, for his assistance in providing war-time panels for the carriage scenes. A long time ago Durham House occupied this land in London.
