Leonard Campbell-Taylor (R.A. 1874-1969)

Leonard Campbell Taylor. Born 12 December 1874, was a British painter of mainly portraits and interiors in a traditional style. Among his patrons was the founding family of Courtaulds and the Courtauld Institute of Art. Born at Oxford, there he studied at Ruskin School before moving on to the School of Art in St John's Wood. From 1895 to 1900, he was a student as the Royal Academy School. Exhibited at the R.A. from 1899; A.R.A. 1923, R.A. 1931. R.I. 1905; R.P. 1909. He exhibited primarily in London and Paris, and lived in Suffolk. He served as an official war artist with the infantry. Served in the Surrey Volunteer Regiment 1916–17; Lieutenant R.N.V.R. His war art is primarily "documentary" in nature and painstakingly accurate. Died 1 July 1969
