Blakeney was visited by Frank Hoar alias “Acanthus” in 1947/48 for this painting. Blakeney had been one of a small group of medieval ports on this part of the Norfolk coastline which had lost their trade as the shingle spit of Blakeney Point grew and the water behind silted up and turned to marsh.
