Gyrth Russell (RI, ROI, SMA 1892-1970)

Printer, etcher of landscapes & marine subjects. Born Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on 13/4/1892. Son of Benjamin Russell, Judge of Supreme Court, Nova Scotia. Studied art at Boston USA, also Paris at the Academie Julian and Artelier Colarossi 1912-14. Represented in several public collections including Canada's National Gallery. Was official war artist with the Canadian Army during World War One and worked with the etcher Cyril H Barraud. Lived at Topsham, Devon and later at Penarth, Glamorgan and Sussex. Died 8/12/1970 in Wales. Produced posters for GWR & BR.

Produced artwork for LNER, W Region series.
