Gyrth Russell (RI, ROI, SMA 1892-1970)

Printer, etcher of landscapes & marine subjects. Born Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on 13/4/1892. Son of Benjamin Russell, Judge of Supreme Court, Nova Scotia. Studied art at Boston USA, also Paris at the Academie Julian and Artelier Colarossi 1912-14. Represented in several public collections including Canada's National Gallery. Was official war artist with the Canadian Army during World War One. Lived at Topsham, Devon and later at Penarth, Glamorgan and Sussex. Died 8/12/1970 in Wales. Produced posters for GWR & BR.

Produced artwork for LNER, W Region series.
