William Lee-Hankey (RWS, RI, ROI, RE, NS 1869-1952)

Painter and etcher of landscapes and portraits. Born 28/3/1869 at Chester. Studied at Chester School of Art under Walter Schroeder, at the RCA and also in Paris. Served with Artist's Rifles 1915-19. Exhibited at most principal London galleries. President of London Sketch Club 1902-4. Represented in many public collections, home and abroad and was a considerable contributor to RWS exhibitions. Won gold medal at Barcelona International Exhibition and bronze medal at Chicago. Lived and worked in France for some time then London. Became member of RWS in 1936, aged 67 and vice president in 1947. Died 10/2/1952. Produced posters for LNER.
